OUR HISTORY

Founded in Aspen, Colorado, Strafe is a collection of passionate individuals whose drive for adventure is rivaled only by our commitment to creating modern mountain apparel that doesn’t compromise performance, quality, or style. We like going fast, and we’re continually inspired by a dedication to living life in the mountains and making versatile gear designed to perform across all conditions. We’re athlete-owned, so we make the gear we need.

Twin brothers John and Pete Gaston started Strafe because of an obsession with Highland Bowl. Hiking the bowl, ripping down to the lift, and riding up to begin the lap again places unique demands on apparel in terms of breathability, weather protection, insulation, mobility and storage. They needed apparel that blended breathable, waterproof materials and constructions with snow-specific features and fits for moving efficiently and skiing hard all day. In 2009, they developed their first prototypes, and in 2010, they made their first product offering: technical jackets, pants and one-pieces in a distinctly new, Strafe style.

The Strafe headquarters are located at the base of the Aspen Highlands ski resort in Aspen, Colorado. This premier resort boasts a prominent feature called The Highland Bowl. Rising to 12,392 feet above sea level the bowl is rugged, unforgiving, and the ultimate environment for Strafe to put their products through the most rigorous testing.

The company’s heritage and brand story is one of undeniable authenticity that resonates with Strafe’s passionate employees and customer base. Designed with intention, the products produced by Strafe are comprised of the very best materials and coupled with superlative fit, function, and construction.

In 2011, we opened our showroom and office doors at the base of Aspen Highlands and became the home of young and adventurous ski culture in Aspen. With strong roots at Highlands, Strafe has grown into a brand known for skiing, riding, and exploring the mountains as much as possible. The Strafe family continues to grow, and it draws inspiration from all disciplines while encouraging others to do the same in the spirit of living a well-rounded life in the mountains.
