A NEW WAVE OF RECYCLED MATERIAL, FROM FISHING NETS TO FABRIC
Discarded fishing nets re-engineered into good-as-new nylon.
NetPlus® is Bureo’s signature material made from post-consumer recycled fishing nets, reducing one of the most harmful forms of ocean plastic pollution while empowering fishing communities around the world.
100% Recycled Fishing Net
NetPlus® material is made from post-consumer recycled fishing nets sourced from fisheries around the world.
Fully Traceable Material
Transparent supply chain that is third-party audited and certified for material traceability from net collection through recycling.
Protects Marine Ecosystems
Reduces one of the most harmful forms of ocean plastic pollution by creating a positive solution for end-of-life nets.
Empowers Fishing Communities
Supports cleaner, healthier coastal communities and gives back to environmental non-profits.
What is NetPlus®?
NetPlus® is 100% post-consumer recycled nylon made entirely from one waste stream:fishing nets rescued before they can pollute the ocean or end up in landfill. We strive to have a “net positive” impact on the environment and communities we partner with. By providing fishermen with a more responsible solution for end-of-life nets, NetPlus® is helping to reduce the amount of plastic entering the ocean while giving back to support local environmental non-profits that benefit the community as a whole.
What’s the problem with fishing nets?
Because they are designed to trap and collect, fishing nets are considered one of the most harmful forms of ocean plastic pollution. When abandoned or lost at sea, they can entangle marine life, harm coral and seabed habitats, and break down into microplastics. Our goal is to stop the problem at the source. We take a proactive approach by incentivizing fishermen to turn in their end-of-life nets at one of our collection hubs. Keeping plastic pollution out of the ocean creates a positive ripple effect in the communities where we work.
Is NetPlus® 100% fishing net?
Yes! NetPlus® material is entirely made from post-consumer recycled fishing nets. We do not blend with other sources of waste or use pre-consumer (or post-industrial) inputs. Every net is tracked from its original source through to the recycled material for full traceability, from net to pellet. Once in pelletized form, NetPlus® material can then be turned into fabric, hat brims, and more. Please note that fabric compositions differ and may not be 100% NetPlus® material.
How does NetPlus® measure up to conventional plastics?
Product testing and technical studies have shown that NetPlus® material properties mirror those of conventional plastics—meaning there is no sacrifice in durability, performance, or longevity. Replacing virgin nylon with NetPlus® recycled nylon can help reduce the overall footprint of a finished product. Here are some key takeaways from our LCA comparing NetPlus® Nylon.
6 pellets with Virgin Nylon 6 pellets:
- GHG Reduction: 20%
- Fossil Fuels Reduction: 67%
- Energy Reduction: 68%
- Water Reduction: 70%
